On our wedding anniversary, my husband reserved a stay at a beautiful resort hotel a whole month in advance. It’s quite unusual to find a beach resort in Japan, but onsen resorts are common. Onsen resorts are exactly what we like, hence, Hoshino Resorts Kai Beppu, a luxurious hot spring hotel, is our choice. We love the peace and privacy of soaking in a private onsen, as it allows us to savor the calm atmosphere at our own pace.
Situated with a breathtaking view of Beppu Bay, this resort offered us our very first experience of staying at an onsen resort by the ocean. Unfortunately, our stay was met with cloudy weather, which obscured the opportunity to witness the stunning sunset – a famed highlight of this location. Nonetheless, we didn’t let it dampen our spirits and we delighted in creating new memories to commemorate our wedding anniversary.
The reception
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the elegant blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern comfort that the resort embodies.
And oh, we experienced in-room check-in for the first time. The staff was the one who went to our room and asked for personal details and explained about the amenities.
The room
Our room, with its minimalist design and soothing color palette, offered a breathtaking view of the tranquil bay. The spacious layout and thoughtful amenities ensured our utmost comfort, providing a perfect retreat to celebrate our special occasion. We were particularly delighted to have a private onsen bath right in our room (we knew that though that’s why we chose this room), which allowed us to relax in seclusion and enjoy the hot spring experience at our leisure.
The onsen, powder room
As I mentioned, the cloudy weather prevented us from seeing the famed sunset over Beppu Bay, but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. Instead, we chose to stay in and savor the comfort of our room. Although I felt that the onsen was not as exceptional as I had hoped—lacking the bluish, silky water that comes from the nearby volcanoes—it was still a soothing experience. I generally prefer onsen baths with those unique mineral qualities.
The dining experience
The dining experience at Kai Beppu was nothing short of extraordinary. We indulged in a kaiseki meal, meticulously prepared with seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. Each course was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with flavors that showcased the culinary heritage of the region. We were touched by the thoughtful anniversary greetings on our desserts and the special gesture of developing a photo of us and presenting it in a lovely frame-like keepsake.
For the breakfast.
Good thoughts
Throughout our stay, the staff’s warm hospitality and attention to detail made us feel cherished and celebrated. From personalized anniversary touches to their attentive service, their dedication to ensuring our comfort and enjoyment was evident.
We were out on exploring the surrounding area before retreating or checking to our hotel, so we’re exhausted. Thankfully, the tranquil haven of Kai Beppu provided everything we needed for a memorable celebration. Our wedding anniversary at Hoshino Resorts Kai Beppu was an enchanting experience that left us with cherished memories. The perfect blend of relaxation, luxury, and thoughtful gestures made it a celebration we will always remember fondly.
