Safe and Trusted Online Shops in Japan

In this guide, we’ll unveil a curated list of safe and trusted online shops in Japan, ensuring your online shopping experience is not only enjoyable but also secure. So, let’s dive into the world of e-commerce excellence, where quality meets convenience.

1. Zara

ZARA

Zara is a well-known international fashion brand that offers a wide range of clothing and accessories. Their online store in Japan provides a convenient shopping experience with quality products.

The Zara app offers a seamless and user-friendly shopping experience. The product descriptions are comprehensive, the image quality is exceptional, and the size guide ensures you make the right choice every time. What truly sets Zara apart is its outstanding delivery service. And my personal favorite? Zara’s return policy. Whether a product doesn’t fit quite right or isn’t what you expected, Zara makes it incredibly convenient. You can schedule a courier to pick up your return right from your doorstep or drop it off at the nearest physical store. It’s this level of convenience and customer-focused service that makes Zara’s app a standout choice for fashion-savvy shoppers.

The app is in English, a bonus to us foreigners.

2. Zozotown

ZOZOTOWN

Zozotown is a popular Japanese online fashion retailer that features a diverse selection of clothing brands and styles. It’s a go-to destination for fashion enthusiasts.

Similar to Amazon, it features a variety of local and international brands, offering products ranging from clothing to appliances. The inclusion of model height guides in the product photos is immensely helpful. While I haven’t personally tried returning a product, it’s worth noting that the option might be available. Additionally, the app is primarily in Japanese (Nihongo), which may pose a minor challenge for non-Japanese speakers like me.

3. H&M

H&M

H&M is another internationally recognized fashion brand with a strong presence in Japan. You can shop for trendy clothing, accessories, and more through their reliable online platform.

One standout feature worth highlighting is the customer-generated content, where individuals who have purchased products post photos of themselves wearing them. It’s a fantastic resource for other customers to get a real-world perspective on how items look and fit. Personally, I love this feature.

Similar to Zozotown, the app is primarily in Japanese (Nihongo), which aligns with the user interface of many Japanese e-commerce platforms.

Regarding returns, I haven’t had the opportunity to explore their policy yet, but it’s on my list for future reference. I’ll be sure to check it out during my next shopping experience.

4. Rakuten

RAKUTEN

Rakuten is a major e-commerce platform in Japan, offering a wide range of products from various sellers. It’s a trustworthy site for everything from electronics to fashion.

While I’m not a frequent user of Rakuten due to finding it somewhat complicated and overwhelming, it doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a good shop. In fact, there’s a noteworthy aspect worth highlighting, which is the points policy. My husband, who often shops on Rakuten, has had opportunities and experiences redeeming products using the points he accumulates.

It’s worth mentioning that the app is primarily in Japanese (Nihongo). However, for those using the website, translation tools can be employed to navigate it more comfortably.

5. GU

GU

GU is a popular fast-fashion brand in Japan, known for its affordability and trendy clothing. Shopping on their app provides access to their latest collections.

Points accumulation is a widely popular practice in Japan. While I haven’t been shopping at GU lately, I’ve had the experience of scanning barcodes as a way to collect points when making in-store purchases. When shopping online, this process is automatic, which is convenient.

When it comes to the app itself, GU offers a user-friendly experience. What I find particularly helpful is the feature that showcases users who have purchased the products, providing images of them wearing the items. This feature serves as a valuable reference for potential customers, helping them make informed choices.

6. Snkrdunk

SNKRDUNK

If you’re into sneakers and streetwear, Snkrdunk is a reliable choice. They offer a variety of sneaker brands and styles to suit your fashion preferences.

The selection of sneakers available on the app is truly distinctive and sets it apart from most conventional shoe shops. While you might stumble upon limited edition sneakers and streetwear in selected physical stores, you’re far more likely to find those coveted items right here.

What’s even more intriguing is the presence of preloved sneakers in excellent condition. This diverse range of options caters to various preferences within the sneaker community.

7. ABC Mart

ABC MART

ABC Mart is a trusted retailer for footwear in Japan. Whether you’re looking for sneakers, boots, or sandals, their online store has a wide range of options.

My personal favorite is the frequent footwear sales it features. It’s a great opportunity to find discounted options.

However, one challenge I’ve encountered is that the app is exclusively in Japanese, which can make navigation a bit difficult for non-Japanese speakers like myself.

When shopping from these reputable online shops in Japan, you can have confidence in the quality of products and the security of your transactions. However, it’s always a good practice to review each store’s policies and read customer reviews for a better shopping experience.

Happy shopping!
